January Producer Price Index down 0.1 percent for second straight month

The Producer Price Index for final demand edged down 0.1 percent in January for the second consecutive month, but was up 2.0 percent year-on-year.



December retail sales dip 1.2 percent from November, but up 2.3 percent year-on-year 

December retail and food services sales for December 2018 were down 1.2 percent from November – the worst drop in nine years – but still up 2.3 percent year-on-year. Total sales for the 12 months of 2018 were up also up 5.0 percent from 2017.



January Small Business Optimism Index falls 3.2 points due to rising uncertainty

The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index slipped 3.2 points in January to 101.2 reading, the lowest since the weeks leading up to the 2016 elections. The NFIB Uncertainty Index rose seven points to 86, the fifth highest reading in the survey’s 45-year history.
