Green rating system looks to LEED way in eco-friendly home design

A seal of approval for commercial buildings, the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification isn’t as well known for houses, condos and apartments. Backers claim that LEED for homes is growing in popularity and setting usable standards for green construction. But some industry professionals worry it’s costly and time-consuming. The certification program kicked off quietly less than 20 years ago with a handful of volunteers and a single standard.
