Naples resident William Pulte, a “brilliant homebuilder and businessman,” dies at 85

William J. Pulte, the founder of Pulte Homes who lived in Naples, has died. He was 85. Pulte grew his namesake company into one of the nation’s largest homebuilders. It’s a name that’s familiar in Southwest Florida, where the builder has a strong presence with award-winning communities and home designs. His family announced his death Wednesday. In a statement, Pulte’s grandson, Bill Pulte, described him as an “anonymous philanthropist and family man.”  “We are deeply saddened by his passing, but we rejoice and celebrate his life of charity and family,” he said.
