Samsung Enters Built-In Appliance Biz

Samsung Electronics is about to ship its first counter-depth appliances.

The six-piece premium collection, which is set to hit sales floors next month, is comprised of gas, electric and induction cooktops; double- and single-wall ovens; and range hoods. The series is highlighted by its high-end features, clean lines, stainless and black stainless finishes, and Wi-Fi connectivity. (The range hood and select cooktops are also endowed with Bluetooth, and all products can sync with Samsung’s SmartThings connected-home hub.) John Herrington, Samsung’s senior VP/general manager of home appliance, said the company is bringing to the built-in line “the same level of innovation and design that we have in our freestanding appliances.” For the wall ovens, that means: *steam cooking; *Samsung’s proprietary Flex Duo feature that divides the 5.1-cubic-foot oven cavity into two sections that can operate at different temperatures; *interior halogen lighting; and *signature LED door lights.
